Software security is not security software. Here we're concerned with topics like authentication, access control, confidentiality, cryptography, and privilege management.

Insecure Transport: RFCOMM Bluetooth Socket

Abstract
The application creates an insecure RFCOMM BlueTooth socket which is subject to man-in-the-middle attacks.
Explanation
Insecure RFCOMM sockets establish a communication channel which does not have an authenticated link key and so it will be subject to man-in-the-middle attacks. For Bluetooth 2.1 devices, the link key will be encrypted, as encryption is mandatory. For legacy devices (pre Bluetooth 2.1 devices) the link key will be not be encrypted.

Example 1: The following code uses insecure RFCOMM sockets:

device.createInsecureRfcommSocketToServiceRecord(MY_UUID);
