Weak Cryptographic Signature
Abstract
Do not use the obsolete Digital Signature Algorithm.
Explanation
A digital signature is a technique used to determine the authenticity and integrity of digital messages. The Digital Signature Algorithm (DSA) is now obsolete and should no longer be used. Unlike other digital signature algorithms, such as RSA, DSA has an intrinsic weakness. It requires a per-message secret value
k
that must be cryptographically random, kept secret, and never reused. If an attacker can guess the value of k
or trick the signer into using a supplied value instead, they can recover the private key and then forge any signature, impersonating the legitimate signer. Similarly, an attcker can recover the private key if the value of k
is reused to sign multiple messages.References
